Shadow Middleton, more commonly known as "Drifter", is a United States Naval Aviator, ranked up to a two-star admiral. He was the very first hybrid in the US to join any branch of military, and did so (somewhat) ilegally. However, he went through flight school, and got through just fine. Many looked down upon him until he got into TOPGUN, where he finished in third. (Behind Iceman and Maverick.) He had a son named Cosmos, raised him as a single father, with the help of his close friends. He also does racing on the side with his 1965 Ford Mustang, an unbeatable mountain racer.
